Boy Schools

Anglo-Chinese School (Independent)

It’s a school that emphasizes on holistic education – a balance between academic and activities. Teachers care about students results because their bonuses are tied to it. As such, teachers do offer free consultations and extra classes. In addition, they highly value sportsman especially rugby, swimming, squash, canoeing, and water polo.

Parents of these students are typically merchants. Otherwise, they are scholars from other ASEAN countries. Students are not very competitive by Singapore standard. They love to do activities and have fun. It’s a very good school to go into for future business connections.

The con of going into this school is Chinese language. Almost all students do not speak fluent Chinese and prefer to converse in English.

Boys out of this school know how to negotiate and are street smart and typically suited to be businessman.

Raffles Institution

It’s a school that emphasizes on excellence. Their sports are the best in Singapore. Their academic is the top every year. However, it is extremely competitive and may come out as a little snobbish. Nevertheless, students who go to Raffles Institutes will have high chance of getting into top universities around the world. Another nickname for this school is “Ivy League Machine”. Out of 2000 students coming out of the school, more than 400 of them gets into top 20 universities around the world, including MIT, Harvard, Oxford, Cambridge, Princeton, Yale, Upenn and so on.

Boys out of this school are suited to be scholars and high ranking government officials.

Chinese High School/Hwa Chong Institution

Known for its academic excellence, the school offers a lot of extra academic programs such as advance chemistry, math, physics, and biology. Students from this school speak Chinese very well. However, there is less emphasis on activities than two schools mentioned above.

Boys out of this school are usually very academic with high level of knowledge beyond normal students.

Victoria School

Known as the 2nd best school in Singapore for sport and academic behind Raffles Institute, they offer extremely high level of education and enhancement program as well. It’s easier to get into than Raffles Institute, but less students get to ivy-league schools too.

Boys out of this school are suited to be scholars and high ranking government officials.

 

Girls Schools

Methodist Girls School

Same as Anglo-Chinese School (Independent) in term of character of the school and its culture.

Raffles Girls School

Same as Raffles Intuition in term of character of the school and its culture.

Singapore Chinese Girl School/ Nanyang Girls’ School

Same as Chinese High School in term of character of the school and its culture.

 

Personally, there is nothing wrong with sending all 4 children to the same school. However, students need to fit into the character of the school as described above. It really depends on what you want your children to be – a scholar, business leader or government officials.
