Places to go for authentic Thai food

Miss the taste of home? Don’t fret, Thai food is quite a hype in Singapore. There are so many Thai restaurants in this island!

Nakhon Kitchen

This restaurant serves great food at affordable prices at around $6-$8 a dish. Fried Chicken in Pandan leaves is a must try! However, do come early especially during dinner time as the waiting time can extend up to 30 minutes. Nevertheless, once seated, service is prompt. At present, there are two branches in Singapore. In the East, it is located at Bedok (#01-166, 136 Bedok North Avenue 3) and at Hougang (#01-341, 212 Hougang Street 21) in the North side of Singapore.

Golden Mile Complex

Located in Central Singapore, this complex along Beach Road widely known as the Little Thailand cannot be missed! The atmosphere in Golden Mile reminds me of Bangkok with food stalls selling takeaway snacks. This building may look a bit dodgy, unlike other glam shopping malls along Orchard Road but authentic Thai food at affordable prices is really worth going for.

A wide variety of Thai food is offered here, from the Thai style BBQ buffet at ‘Happy Mookata’ , hot and spicy Isaan food like Somtam and Larb at ‘Nong Khai’, to other all time favourite dishes such as Tom yam and Green Curry. Mango Sticky Rice, Red Ruby and Thai Style Chendol seem to be the fave dessert here and is easily found in many restaurants within the complex.

It’s hard to conclude whether Diandin Leluk, Barn Beer Thai or Na Na Original Thai serves the best food. I guess you need to try all! After filling up your stomach, don’t forget to have a little shopping exercise at ‘Puen Thai’ supermarket on the second floor where you can find almost every items from Thailand. Also, some of the shops are also open up to 24 hours, so a supper is another great option.

Ah Loy Thai

In the heart of the city, you can find Ah Loy Thai restaurant. Located at Bugis, the restaurant serves Thai food at affordable prices. Although it is a little bit more expensive than those in Golden Mile, their appetizer, fried butter calamari cannot be missed!
